I have been fishing Dream Lake for a while now and still find it a fascinating lake and have had some nice fish on the bank Although I have fished the lake using many different methods there are still many species still avoiding me! This is not a lake for those people who want to get non-stop rod bending action; this is a lake for anglers who are willing and prepared to put in the time and effort to catch a hard fighting specimen. The lake is filled with many species of fish; the lake probably holds the most diverse collection of species of any lake in Thailand.
Fishing for a net full of small fish using light tackle the pole, waggler or feeder is great fun and can produce plenty of bites. The right method on the right day can produce some great sport, catching mud carp, Esok and Tilapia that fight real hard on light tackle. Throw in the odd Chinese carp for good measure; they only wake up when you show them the landing net!Another method that works is floating live bait around the lake watching the float bob around. Most days this will bring a strike from one of the lakes predators. The Alligator Gar are very fond of a surface live bait but unhooking one of these fish is not easy; be warned watch your fingers on the rows of razor sharp teeth which protrude and are still as dangerous when the fish mouth is closed!Ledgering dead or meaty baits can keep you guessing as to what you might hook next. Pacu, Tiger catfish, Redtail catfish, Featherbacks or even the elusive Arapaima. But you must make sure the drag is set and you are sitting close to your rods because when one of these fish hits the rod it will be put to the test. The Redtails just love to head for the snags and the undercut banks, wear your shorts as you may have to go in and get it out.
